Epiphany
Bodies wrapped in flocks of fabric
and hot paper cups wedged in their gloved hands.
They whisper through blocks of metal and glass,
carry out discourse en-route to their tasks
and look to the right for charging predators
like sheep signalled when to cross.
They reach their shelter, stone and concrete,
to complete the purpose they were always bred for.
There they taste the artificial light
and bask in fabricated social sunshine.
Floors like lines, factory-like
movements define their days before
the night falls and production stops.
They rush home to their real lives.
Then sun comes up and they rise again
to take their post on the production line.
And each morning they stumble out
into elements of the world, unaware that
each epiphany is buried deeper within the sigh,
each dream is phased out by the life.
